Why I Joined the Take Up Space Foundation Board

My name is Lorie Converse, and I am honored for the opportunity to serve as the Director of Events for The Take Up Space Foundation— a women’s empowerment group dedicated to helping women step into their voice, their confidence, and their calling. For me, this work is deeply personal. It’s not just about strategy and promotion — it’s about building a platform where women can show up unapologetically, be seen, and celebrated.

If you’ve ever seen me in action, you know I come alive when planning events. Hosting and organizing gatherings are my love languages. Whether it be for work, personal or volunteering.  There’s something magical about creating spaces where women can connect, feel inspired, and leave recharged.

My passion for service didn’t begin with The Take Up Space Foundation; it’s something that’s been with me for years. I will shortly be starting my 5th year on the local school board, where I have had the privilege of advocating for equitable education and student-centered policies. I am currently volunteering on the auxiliary board for Encompass Recreation, where I help champion inclusive, adaptive recreation opportunities for children of all abilities and ages in the North Country.

In my professional life, I work as a Loan Officer with Movement Mortgage. Every day, I get to work with families and individuals as they take steps toward homeownership — one of the most empowering milestones in life.

I truly believe that when women are supported and encouraged, communities thrive. Empowering women isn’t a trend — it’s a necessity. We’re not just making room at the table; we’re building bigger tables for women to take up the space they deserve.

Being part of this foundation is an honor. I want women to know that their ideas matter, their voices matter, and their presence is powerful.
