Why Taking Up Space Matter to Me

Taking up space is important to me because I’ve been told I’m, “too much,” in one way or another my entire life until almost 2 years ago.

My mother used to tell me, “you require too much attention.”  My father used to say, “you run your mouth too much.”  My ex-husband used to say I was too much everything, and not in a good way.

I was verbally and emotionally abused my entire life.

Something in the back of my head always told me something wasn’t right.

That I was just fine.  That it was the people I was surrounded with who were wrong.  Then I switched careers.  I went from a profession that was punitive in nature to a profession where people were upbeat, positive, and forward thinking.  I started realizing that not everybody was so negative and critical of me.  It was about 4 years later that I worked up the strength to leave my toxic spouse.

A very short time into my new career I also met an amazing young woman who introduced me to even more positive up-beat people.  I remember being so impressed with how together she seemed to be and how confident in herself she was.  She brought me into her world and has been a very important part of my life ever since.  (Thank you Devan).

Now that I have decided to go back to a version of my original career, it is even more important for me to stay involved with this group so I can remember all I’ve learned and stay focused on growth, positivity, and the fact that I’m a f…ing amazing woman who isn’t anything other than perfectly imperfect and JUST RIGHT.
